Hi Everyone,
Today Olcay Buyan and myself, Jas Manghera, are excited to share our MCML Samples project with the Media Center community. Before I talk about the project, I would like to thank Olcay for all his enthusiasm and hard work in this project - it was infectious and I'm just glad to have had the pleasure of working with him.
This project provides real vista media center-like controls written in mcml. A common complaint since the introduction of mcml was the lack of real-world controls. We hope that sharing this project will alleviate a lot of that frustration by allowing anyone to use/modify these samples for any purpose, be it personal or commercial or other. The decision to freely fully share source-code maybe an unpopular decision with some, but we felt that limiting this collection of samples would be wrong on many levels.
We hope new developers will be able to focus on creating exciting applications that challenge the way we interface with Media Center and not get caught up in the drudgery of creating a radio group or a treeview directory control. We hope old developers can refine their existing code; ideally we wanted to create a paper for the "Best Practices for MCML" but just simply ran out of time.
Download MCML Samples source code here: http://www.codeplex.com/mcml
Samples included:
- Button
- Editbox
- HeaderButton
- Pivot
- RadioButtonGroup
- TreeView
- Spinner
- Repeater
- Checkbox
Once you open the project in visual studio, a quick rebuild will automatically register the sample inside Media Center. That's really all there is to it - have fun.

Thanks:
- This project was inspired by fellow sandbox member's Steven Harding and Niall Ginsbourg call for developers to 'Pay it Forward'. Without their advice I know that I personally would have called it quits a long time ago :P .
- Long time members of the Sandbox, whose support to my panic-stricken cries for help actually helped - thanks.
- Finally, Olcay if you ever find yourself wondering about in London,UK give me a call - first round's on me :).
