    QuiiQ MOVIES

    Hello everyone,

did someone installed QuiiQ MOVIES free trial and has any opinion about it?

    http://www.quiiq.com/Movies/Default.aspx

I've tried it and i think it's really easy to use but i would like to see more opinions on it.

    Best Regards

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

Well, here's my take on it.

In short, it's definitely not worth the asking-price, I mean, come on - over a hundred bucks? And all it really offers above and beyond My Movies is the fact it's an MCML application. In terms of usage, I found it very fiddly and not overly intuitive.

    That's my $0.02 anyway :)

lol - I'm going to say no, but only because yours is free and they're charging an arm, a leg and half a family for their product :D

btw - what does load_times mean to you? There's obviously a link to me there, but it's an internal page... /me curious

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

I just tried it and I think it has some good features but it does not feel smooth like a MCML program should be. The navigation is kind of erratic and the animations do not flow very well. Definitely not worth the money.

    [off topic]

    Charlie,

I'll make sure my next release has ninjas, ninjas beat kittens :)

    emigrating,

Knuth says that premature optimisation is the root of all evil, and who am I to argue with him.
When I decided to write my blog engine I skipped a few optimisations cause I just wanted to release my blog, I use the load_time page to keep track of who visits my blog and how long it takes to render each page, if performance start detriorating I will implement page caching and then mem caching. I quite often click on links on my load_time page which takes me to the place that linked to me...

Ninjas aren't really all that interesting.

Now Kittens which are ALSO Ninjas -- that would be compelling.

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

It seams they have lowered the products price quite a bit.

    Are you happy now? :)

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

Sambo99, your application would be great if it was simpler to use.  I have a single folder full of dvr-ms files of my movies.  All I'm looking for is an application that will let me point to a folder, see the dvr-ms files, read the meta data already in them and use the jpg of the same name for a picture.  How hard is that.  I could even see being able to add enhanced meta information in an xml file if I wanted to being useful, but not necessary.  The real reason is beauce for some reason Media Center keeps thinking that these are Recorded TV, or at least that is what I currently have to deliver them through in order to watch them through my XBox 360.

I am currently learning MCML so that I can try to create my own application to do this, but the lack of real world examples that consistenly work is driving me nuts.  By that, I mean I see an example of code and I mimic it in my app and it doesn't compile, very frustrating.  Especially since there is no real explanation what the problem is.

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

Take a look at TV Library (http://www.digitallivingsolutions.co.uk/downloads/TvLibrary_1_0_0.zip) - it does exactly what you suggest, saving you the effort!   For more info, search for TvLibrary on TGB.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

PS I need to recompile it to remove an April 1 expiry - will get that sorted tomorrow.

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

Hey AndyC,  The program looks like just what I'm looking for.  However, it doesn't work on my XBox 360.  It brings up the screen telling me that I need to set the regiestry entries.

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

Yup, just set the registry entries and it will work as expected.  See the TGB thread for more info (search for "TV Library" to find it).

    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

AndyC,  Since the XBox doesn't have registry entries, how do I specifiy this information when I'm looking at the library through the XBox?  I've searched on TGB, and found several posts referencing TvLibrary, but nothing really mentions how to get it working on an xbox 360.  It works fine right now on my Vista PC, but as I stated I'm getting the screen telling me that I need to set the registry entries on my XBox

    Re: QuiiQ MOVIES

Two options - if you want global entries, use HKLM rather than HKCU to set up your library folders; alternatively if you want specific folders you can load the registry hive from the extender into your console session, modify the library folders there and unload it again.
