The Media Center Sandbox

Is it possible to launch a background application (via something like a shortcut in the all users startup folder, or adding it to the Run key) when an extender session logs in?

I don't have an extender or I would just try it :)

They work identically to the console session - the background addins start with Media Center (or more accurately several seconds after Media Center starts!)

applications != addins

if for e.g. you put a shortcut to an application in the startup folder for all users, does it get executed when the extender session starts up.

I've seen an (extremely annoying) Real Audio "startup" popup display on my extender when starting it up (I had to press the "Windows" button on the RC to get rid of it), so I'd be inclined to say that yes, startup applications will run (totally separately from Media Center addins).

Sorry, missed the addin/application thing - as I tend to use both words interchangably...

But as Damian says, you can run background applications on the extender session, as long as you don't show a window which will cause the extender manager to terminate the session.
